Recently, according to the review by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the German Research Federation (DFG), and with the approval of the co-chairman of the Sino-German Joint Committee, the Sino-German Science Center of NSFC announced the funding results of 2020 Sino-German Mobility Program. The project “Study on new 3d-CTG engineering surfaces with unidirectional oil flow for rolling bearings with limited lubricant supply”, proposed by Professor Guo Feng of our group and Professor Gerhard Poll of Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, was approved and the total funding amount was 150M CNY. This project proposes a three-dimensional comb-tooth groove (3d-CTG) texture, which could be used in rolling bearings and realize unidirectional lubricant flow and enhances lubrication. It is expected that the new 3d-CTG can optimize limited lubricant supply of rolling bearings, and thus help to develop new energy efficient bearings. Our group is good at the fundamental researches of fluid lubrication, while Professor Poll's research group focuses on rolling bearing engineering applications. Both parties have achieved high-level cutting-edge results and complement each other in this research. The official exchange visits and seminars to be conducted in this project will promote academic exchanges between the two groups, especially the long-term cooperation between young scientists and students, and hope to undertake larger-scale joint research projects in the near future.
